Why I love this ice cream
- Easy to make and requires no expensive equipment
- Assembles quickly in fifteen minutes.
- Just five components
- Adjustable: Feel free to use your preferred Oreo, such as gluten-free, birthday cake, or double stuff.
The most difficult aspect of this recipe, of course, is waiting for your ice cream to solidify in the freezer; this can be excruciating, but it will take about 4-6 hours. But once it’s frozen, you can scoop it into cones or make an even more delicious cookies and cream sundae by topping it with hot fudge and whipped cream!
Ingredients needed
Condensed milk
Condensed milk is one of the essential ingredients in ice cream, we can replace it with a custard base this recipe makes it more delicious.
Vanilla
When making Oreo ice cream, a dash of vanilla is essential! Feel free to use any homemade vanilla extract you may have on hand.
Salt
We use a pinch of salt or you can use your way.
Heavy cream
Just like with whipped cream, we’ll whip this until stiff peaks form, and then collapse it into the evaporated milk combination. If you have trouble whipping cream to a stiff peak, I’ve included a helpful tip below. To counterbalance the sweetness and size of the Oreos, this recipe calls for a little bit more heavy cream than my traditional no-churn ice cream.
Oreos
Although I use regular Oreos in this recipe, you may use any flavor for the Oreo ice cream. Oreos with either peanut butter or mint would make excellent substitutes.
How to make Oreo Ice Cream
- In a large bowl, mix the condensed milk, vanilla, and salt; set away. Beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form in a different bowl. When your cream hits hard peaks, it will be fluffy and thick like Cool Whip.
- Once everything is mostly combined, fold it gently the whipping cream into the condensed milk combination.
- 15 Oreo cookie pieces should be broken up and added to the ice cream base.
- After evenly incorporating the cookies, pour the ice cream into a 9×5 bread pan lined with parchment paper. Place the final three cookies on top, sprinkling them evenly across the top. Before scooping, place a piece of wrapping paper directly on top of the ice cream and put it in the freezer to chill for at least four to six hours.
FAQs
Can I make Oreo ice cream gluten-free?
Of course! All you have to do to make gluten-free Oreo ice cream is replace the regular Oreos with gluten-free ones. This would be a great place to try the new mint flavor that Nabisco added to their gluten-free lineup!
What if I don’t have a bread pan?
Indeed, you may use any deep pan or container preferably one made of metal. Just be sure you can place a lid or tightly cover it with wrapping paper to avoid your Oreo ice cream from getting freezer burn.
Can I use this recipe to make a cookies and cream ice cream cake?
Indeed! Instead of using the ice cream recipe there, you may try this one in my recipe for ice cream cake. Additionally, you should try my Oreo cheesecake cake if you like the idea of this!
Does Oreo ice cream expire?
Ice cream officially has a “best by” date rather than an expiration date. This means that if there is no sign of spoiling and it is kept properly, it should be safe to eat past the date on the carton. But the quality might deteriorate.
